We all think what happens after we die. We lived before we came to earth, and we will continue to live even after we have passed away or do we go to heaven? Or do we reincarnate? Or do we just fade away into nothing?
There are many theories out there which depending on one’s views, religion and many other factors. I hope death is not an end but a whole new begging. The end is a new beginning is captured in a webcomic titled: “Death and The Maiden”.
Artist named Jorgen Santen from Oslo, Norway tries to capture the answers in his funny comics. The main character of the illustrations is a dead girl who was hit by a bus while on the phone. They go on all types of adventures together, even visiting the land of the living. They meet all kinds of people in death from animals to celebrities.
The concept for the comic originated in 2016 when artist Jorgen entered a national comic contest. The contest gave a purpose and remarkably made the top 5. Since then, the artist has created more episodes for fun.
Artist has 17.7k followers on Instagram as it’s clear, his fan loves his illustrations.
Artist told, “I started posting on Tapas.io and gained some followers. In 2019, I was asked to publish in the weekend section of Aftenposten, which is the largest newspaper in Norway. I still publish two episodes every weekend here. The comics have also been published in other newspapers and comic magazines in Scandinavia. I think I came up with the idea of a comic about the afterlife because I’m terrified of death and not religious.”
What inspires artist to create an art, “I love to draw, and also enjoy writing and coming up with jokes and short stories. I find inspiration for my comic everywhere, but very often during conversations with friends and family. Very often I think: ‘Ha! This topic would make a great episode”.
