Camille Vasquez, who made headlines as part of the team of lawyers who successfully represented actor Johnny Depp in his recent high-profile defamation trial, has been made partner at the law firm she works for.
Brown Rudnick announced Vasquez’s promotion on their website, saying that her performance in Depp’s case against his ex-wife Amber Heard was central to the decision. Being made a partner in a law firm is considered a peak in a solicitor’s career.
Vasquez was a key part of Depp’s win, where he was awarded $10 million in damages. Her courtroom performance made headlines around the world.
William Baldiga, chairman and CEO of Brown Rudnick, said the firm was “delighted” to welcome Vasquez to the partnership, adding: “Camille’s performance during the Johnny Depp trial proved to the world that she was ready to take this next step.”
Vasquez, who was part of a nine-strong team from Brown Rudnick that defended Depp, added: “I am delighted that Brown Rudnick has given me its full vote of confidence by having me join the partnership.
“I’m proud of the uniquely talented team I’ve had the privilege to lead, which exemplified teamwork and collaboration, and I look forward to continuing to represent Brown Rudnick’s culture of excellence.”
This news should also quell rumor’s that had surfaced earlier this week that other law firms were planning to bid to poach Vasquez from her post at Brown Rudnick.
